NIGERIA: Study in Ottawa as an International Student

Minimum Requirements For Admission 

SECONDARY SCHOOL

When applying directly from a secondary school, the following conditions must be met in other to be considered for an admission to study an undergraduate program:


You must have acquired, or in the process of acquiring your West African Examinations Council Senior School Certificate (WAEC) or West African Senior School Certificate of Education (WASSCE).

You must have met a minimum average of 75 percent (requirements may  differ depending on the program you choose).

You must have finished or in the process of finishing the prior conditions/requirements for the program you choose. Only if stated otherwise, you must finish and meet all prior conditions/requirements at the senior secondary school level.


POST-SECONDARY SCHOOL

If you have begun or finished diploma studies  (Postsecondary school degree) and the following conditions are met, In other to be considered for an admission to study an undergraduate program,

You must have met a minimum average of 70% (requirements may differ depending on the program you choose).

You must have finished, or in the process of finishing, the prior conditions/requirements required for the program you choose. Only if stated otherwise, you must finish and meet all prior conditions/requirements at the senior secondary school level and or the postsecondary level.


Space is finite hence, admission can be highly competitive and not assured. They solely retain every right to decide to grant or not grant admission even if all requirements are met

Required Documents:

If you are in the process of studying for your West African Examinations Council Senior School Certificate (WAEC) or West African Senior School Certificate of Education (WASSCE), You can submit the below listed documents through the uoZone portal: 

  • Transcript of the past three years of your secondary school studies
  • Transcript of your results from the first term of your final year in senior secondary school


If you have completed and graduated from your senior secondary school level, you should submit the below listed documents through the uoZone portal:

  • Your WAEC or WASSCE results
  • Proof of diploma


If you have begun or completed your postsecondary education, you can apply by submitting the below listed documents through the uoZone portal:


  • Your postsecondary transcripts
  • Your WAEC or WASSCE results 
  • Proof of diploma


Language Requirements:

The courses at the University of Ottawa are taught in English or French or in both languages and you must master one of these two languages to gain admission.

If course you intend to apply for is an English-language program and you have not studied a minimum of a three years of full-time course in an institution where English is the main language of teaching and instruction (asides specific language courses), in a country where its official language is English, you must sit for any of the language tests that we recognize and submit your official score gotten from the test.

  • Must have completed some university studies (Civil Law: 1 year | Common Law: 3 years)

Bachelor of Education
  • 2 years 
  • Can lead to teaching positions in Ontario primary or secondary schools or accreditation in other Canadian provinces 
  • Can lead to admission to graduate diploma or master’s programs

Advanced Standing (Transfer Of Credit):

If you have finished some postsecondary courses, you will be assessed on them, even if you intend to apply for an undergraduate course.

You may be granted advanced standing (i.e., transfer of your credits), based on the course you are applying to. Faculties who decides to accord advanced standing, do so based on the subjects,  the courses that you have finished, and the duration of your studies.
